I think this will work best with the addition of will power. In my case, I'm trying to stop a 4-year old from biting her fingernails. Will power doesn't come easily with a 4-year old. We applied this twice daily and it seemed to have worked for about a week, but then I noticed that she's back to biting her nails. It's as if she's spent the past week getting used to this taste so that she can bite her nails. Absolutely frustrating, yet simultaneously impressed that a nailbiting habit could be so strong to break.I tasted this product myself and it's not pleasant. But not revolting. Maybe that's the problem in my situation. Some of the reviews for the competing product by Mavala mentions that the taste is so bad that some people had stomach aches. I didn't think I needed something quite that intense. Additionally, we bought this product because the reviews for the Mavala brand mentioned how the horrible taste rubbed off on food they touched with their hands and their kids stopped eating. My 4-year old is picky enough as is and I didn't want to make that worse with a product that would make her eat even less. The good thing with the Onyx brand is that the taste from the nail polish didn't appear to transfer over to food. My daughter was happily eating chicken nuggets yesterday.I think for teens and adults who can muster up the will power not to bite their nails, this will be a great compliment to remind you to stop when your finger inadvertently makes it to your mouth out of habit. For those lacking such willpower, such as my little kid, it may not be as effective. I've broke down and bought the more expensive (and supposedly very powerful) Mavala nail biting solution. Hopefully that will work.

My son sucked the middle and ring fingers on his right hand until he had callous building on the fingers. We tried many techniques to get him to stop, but to no avail, he continued sucking his fingers. He was constantly getting sick, because (let's face it) kids are germy, and pay no mind to the crud on their little fingers. It took five years, but we finally got him to stop sucking his fingers! Two weeks of wearing Stop the Bite, and he hasn't sucked his fingers in months!I also used the polish to stop biting my nails.The reason I am giving a 4 star rating, rather than a 5 star, is because if a person is eating finger food, they will taste the polish. Your fingers do not even have to make direct contact with the mouth in order to taste the strong flavor.... and it's a lasting flavor.

Worked wonders for my 3.5 yr old son - he would bite his nails down to nubs and they would bleed, it was awful. The first time I put this on his nails and he instinctively went to bite them he cried because I took away his comfort habit, but I gave him some chewelry to chew on instead and after 2 weeks this is the result! He finally adapted to fingers not going in his mouth because it tastes yucky.

I was cautious about buying this due to chemicals. But guess what... my 7 year old son who is an AVID thumb sucker tasted this stuff once and never put his thumb back in his mouth. I couldn't believe it. I put it on a few more times at bedtime... just to be sure... and the habit stopped. Cold turkey!

FINALLY SOMETHING THAT WORKS! I have tried EVERYTHING to stop biting. Other nail polishes, hypnosis, wearing gloves all day, hot sauce, getting acrylics (yes I even chew on those.) I am so addicted to biting my nails that the 17 hours I am awake everyday, I spend probably 15 of them with a hand in my mouth. It is constant, until now. Today is day 5 of wearing this polish, and I have tried to bite, and regret it instantly. None of the other products on the market like this work, but this absolutely does! The photo added is 5 days of not biting, just to put into perspective how short they are after 5 days, to show how much I chew my nails. The taste lingers FOREVER, and it is awful. I even put it on my 2 year old son who sucks his thumb, he cried it tasted ao bad. Needless to say, he hasn't put his thumb back in his mouth. I will continue to buy this product, it is the only one that works.

Been biting my nails since I was old enough to have teeth. Never, ever stopped by any means, and I refused to buy this because I thought it was stupid to have to paint them to stop biting. When I first got this nail polish, I thought I'd see what it taste like, just to know what I was in for. I put the tiniest drop possible on my fingertip and licked it... when I say this is THE foulest tasting thing I have ever experienced, I mean it. It got stuck in my throat and I was tasting it even 2 hours and about a gallon of water later. Now, having said that, as a former biter who would chew my fingers until they stung for weeks, one taste of this stuff and I literally did not even bite them once after that. Great product

My toddler bites her nails. After painting them with this she started nibbling and instantly felt sick. I debated taking the polish off but just washed her hands and let it go. She stopped biting them right away. I think after washing her hands it tasted gross enough to not want to bite but didn't give her as much of a stomach ache.

I think its a good product,and I am sure it has worked for many,unfortunately it has not worked for my son. My wife and I tried it on ourselves and we both thought this was going to be the solution because of how strong the product is. Even after a couple days of washing our hands,we could still taste it. We were so shocked,that our little one does not even seem bothered by the sour taste of this product,and continues to bite his nails. But we might be the exception,so I won't say anything bad about the product.

Bought a similar product probably a year ago to stop 9 yr old son biting nails constantly.. it never worked. I decided to try this one as a final thing not knowing how we could stop him, based on some good reviews, not knowing if reviews were saying taste is strong like the last one we bought that did nothing, when it isnt.Boy does this stuff work! I tried a bit on my own nail and the taste was foul, bitter, and extremely strong! Put it on sons nails, and 2 weeks later we finally actually see nail growing to a point we can actually clip them for the first time in years. It also lasts a good 3 days at least even with a daily shower if you forget to put it on one day, so your child can't sneak in a day or two of chewing. Product saved a lot of grief and aggravation. HIGHLY recommended.

This worked to get my toddler to stop sucking her thumb, 100%. Only tip is this, apply it at night while the tots asleep, that way you are not the bad guy. When my toddler complained her thumb was yucky (after polish), i agreed that sucking her thumb was yucky and she shouldnt do it anymore ! Re-apply every other night for a couple weeks. Voila! Problem solved!

I have been a chronic nail biter for many years but I finally got a hold on my habit. They stuff works but you need to make a mental commitment to not bite your nails. If you dont I would notice myself biting regardless of the bitterness. Make sure when you put your hands to your mouth, the bitter taste is a reminder that you need to stop.

This product actually works. My 7-year-old son had been biting his nails no matter what I tried before. Then I saw this product and ordered it as I had nothing to lose, it had good reviews and it just made sense. After two full weeks of use, I’m glad to say that my wife and I are surprised! Too happy. For first time in a year, his nails grew to the point I had to clip them today :)It taste pretty bad. I tried it on myself first (you know, if any adverse reaction and to know how strong the taste). Now I understand it’s effective. He complained on day one and stopped putting hands in mouth.I would advise a couple of things I’ve learned so far:1) also apply the polish to the surrounding skin. Kids tend to replace nail for that skin. That’s a bad habit2) tell kids that is a medicine to heal the fingers. My son discovered a way to remove (peel off) the polish with the now-grown nails!3) yes, apply it twice a dayI am planning to order a couple more. Now I know it’s safe and effective. I believe one 14-mL bottle would last 6 weeks.I’d recommend the seller: USPS then Canada Post? The product’s tracking DOES NOT EXIST. it’s still on its way as per amazon.ca, and Ive had it for 2 weeks...Hope this help.

It is mentioned on the product that it can be poisonous. After reading this instructions we cannot take the risk.
